It Has Been Two Years Now

Two years ago, I was chosen to be an English Corner tutor during my freshman year. I can still remember my very first English student, she was a girl from English department, who later become a local tutor as well. I was so shy and nervous because I felt extremely anxious during my first formal teaching experience. Luckily, she was very kind are friendly, we had a good talk and I believe we both learned something that day.

The dream-like start made me believe working in English Corner would be one of the best life experiences in my life, and it really has been.

For two years, there have been almost twenty exchange students from America, who were both open-minded and gorgeous. For me, not only learning English but being in a different cultural atmosphere has been the best thing working in English corner.

American festivals such as Halloween, Christmas and even some local Chinese festivals like Lantern Festival, is the way for us to know “American Fashion” through seeing exchange students in English Corner such as party planning, decorating and even “Tung Yuan” cooking.

From what I have heard, until 2004 the English Corner was nothing but a common beverage stand. Today, it has become a remarkable and distinctive icon at Shih-Hsin University.

It is truly a magical feeling watching the English Corner grow from a few chairs and table, into a place with much more space, polished floor and an LCD projector. What could be better than, watching “the friend of English Corner”, which is YOU. Your laugh, the friend you made here and the satisfied looking after you bite and chewing corner-made thanksgiving turkey.

The looking of English Corner changes, but YOU are the essential part of English Corner that last forever. In the next two years, the English Corner continues being a cool and special place because of YOU!
